We encourage young artists who participate in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions – Minnesota District to attend a master class. The classes are sponsored by the Twin Cities Opera Guild the day after District auditions. We carefully select teachers, such as Ruth Golden (featured in the photos on this page), who are known not only as accomplished vocalists, but also as exceptional instructors who can make an immediate impact in the professional lives of the National Council Audition participants.
At a master class, students work individually with the teacher while an audience, including other students, listens and observes. The master teacher tailors the lesson to each singer’s specific needs and skills and may give advice on anything from vocal technique to audition attire. From even this brief interaction with the master teacher, the young artists gain valuable learning they can incorporate into their ongoing training with voice teachers and coaches.
